DAY 96: THE RADIO STATIONS!

Directions:  From the 101 Freeway in Ventura, exit on Victoria and head north past all the shopping, past the 126 Freeway and go to the top of the hill.  Turn left on Foothill.  Immediately on your right, you will see a driveway with a gate and normally this is a truck parked there with a sign that says "Free Firewood".  If you don't believe me, Google maps verified it:  FIREWOOD EXIT.  You cannot park here, so you can drive up a bit and turn down the first street to your left.  It's a one minute walk or 30 second jog back.  If you want to cheat, you could stay on Victoria instead of turning on Foothill and you'll notice the road to the left.  You can park on Victoria, or whatever its called and find a place to cross.  There is a fence, sometimes, but there is a spot to make the transfer.

The road is known as Sexton Canyon Road.  It will take you up, and prepare to keep climbing higher.  By the way, I started the hike with a drizzle in the air and by the time I got to the top, it was and it still is pouring!

Keep on the road.  Eventually, you'll have an option to turn left, so do it!  Follow that past some old small buildings where workers may be hanging out.  Keep going!  It gets steeper!  Eventually, the map calls the road Barlow Canyon Tr.  This is the known trail that leads to Two Trees, but we are a ways from it.  In fact, due to the bad weather, I could not see Two Trees or the Ocean.  I was up here once before with my son, prior to the Thousand Day March, and the view is to LIVE FOR.  I don't understand why the saying goes, To Die For, because I'd rather live!

When I went with Ayden, we took another route.  We explored the groves and let me tell you, there is no shortcut through the groves.  It is a disturbing waste of time.  We tried to hike beyond the groves in a spot that could have made sense, but we failed miserably.  Talk about a Dead End Trail.

Here is the view from Space: RADIO STATIONS

There is more to explore above and beyond.  One day I will hike beyond to Sulpher Canyon Road, but today, it was dark way early and I was drenched!  I've already taken a hot shower but my skin still feels cold!  Good thing I didn't by the camera today.  By the way, has anyone other than Sky Hiker considered donating a new camera??

  1. I get there from the park trail. Usually some people in a truck try to come and chase people off.

    Its a great hike!

  2. There are big "Private" and "No Trespassing" signs at the front gat of Sexton Canyon Rd, right off Foothill. So the question is: can you walk, bike or drive up Sexton Canyon Rd anyway? Is it private property and is the property owner gonna chase you off, or worse, get you cite for violation?
Love your 1000 hikes site, so useful! I notice the last comment here was 5 years ago, so hope you're still reading this.

  4. Seth, I still check in from time to time - add another hike to the blog, from time to time. In regards to No Trespassing on Private Property - I don't know what you're talking about. I never saw the sign :), never seen any No Trespassing Signs until after I come back. Then, good idea to post it on the blog so others will not trespass. Never a good idea to walk on this Earth where another person tells you not to, especially if you are going to respect the land and leave it as you found it. Problem is, not every one does - and for those people, shame on you for ruining it for the rest. Space is precious - so is this air. Don't take these hikes for granted. We are privileged!
