This was our Hike of the Day. Finally, a little bit of elevation discovered in Texas. Up until now, all we could walk up was stairs or very small hills.

Enchanted Rock is quite a distance from Austin; West Northwest of the city. Even further from San Antonio, where we had rolled out from. This was not our first stop of the day, but it was our finest.

Enchanted Rock reminds me of Stone Mountain, in Atlanta. Yay, hiked that one too.

We left the KOA campground in San Antonio at a reasonable hour. Fresh from the shower facilities at the park, we dumped our shit and refilled our water supply. The RV Trip continues...

The main attraction at Natural Bridge Caverns is the Cave system below. I had planned to take the 90 minute tour/hike below, but when we rolled up, there were dozens of school buses there and we had no desire to explore the caves with a bunch of bratty kids. Instead, we put Ayden on the Zipline and challenged him to climb the obstacle course.

Well, he got about two steps in and said, No Way! Too scared to go any further. If his sister had been here or others --- well heck, I'm not going to do it. I'm on a budget and my wife has a bad back -- excuses. I could see this place being fun for kids, coming with their friends.

Random stop. Enroute to Enchanted Rock, we drove over a bridge and noticed the river and waterfall below. Good timing for a stop, long drive. Let's take a short walk...

Whatawhat?

In the town of Fredricksburg, we stopped at Whataburger for lunch. Ever since landing in Texas, we have seen this fast food joint basically off every exit. Then, after driving on country roads for hours, this establishment magically appeared so we figured on checking it out. It smells good on the outside - but whataburger; nah. I prefer In and Out. Whata wasa okay, I guess. My wife hated it, but her opinion on food is over critical. Still, keep this fast food stuff in Texas. I'm trying to lean out, so I said to myself after destroying the sandwich, whatawhat?!

These flowers have been popping up all over Texas, but none so brilliant as the ones just past Enchanted Rock.

Pedernales Falls

Heading over to Austin, we routed around to Pedernales Falls. I got out, walked to the quick overlook, but decided not to drive further into the park for the adventure. The hour was getting late and I had plans to meet up with my cousins, who I hadn't seen in well over a decade. So, I snapped a photo on the sign :). I elected to Not award any hiking credit for this location.

The drive into the city, especially at rush hour, was like being in LA again. The traffic came to a standstill. One of the fastest growing areas in the country, Austin does not have the infrastructure to support the masses.

Climb the 102 Stairs to the top

*MapMyRun did not give me any Elevation Credit. Cannot count on this App to be spot on. But I assure you, these stairs are not flat. The climb was easy, we saw people running up and down them, which I took to be dangerous since the surface was damp and slippy.

The Colorado River - of Texas

Just so there is no confusion, this is not the same Colorado which formed the Grand Canyon. Not sure why it shares the same name?

It's not really the worst, but...

...this is an establishment at a gas station. However, don't let that deter you. The experience inside is different, fun; Texas!

Family

Other than my wife and son, I don't see any of my family - or friends, much. It has been well over a decade since I have seen my cousins. It was nice seeing you and I'll figure out a way so that it's not another 10+ years. One thing that I will give to my dad is, he always took a trip out west each year. In doing so, he figured out a way to see family. Good Deal...
