DAY 202: Lake Los Carneros Park
Date: Saturday June 4, 2011
Miles: 3.0
Elevation Gain: 75 Feet
Time: 1+ hour
Difficulty: Way too Easy
Reward: It's always nice to find a lake, but honestly it was quite boring here
Description: Follow a paved road and walk along a wooden deck path above the marsh
Where: Goleta, CA
Directions:From the 101 Freeway in Santa Barbara continue north toward Goleta. Exit #107; turn right on N. Los Carneros Rd. About a quarter mile up on the right is a museum. You can park there or continue to drive straight on Los Carneros. Then turn right on Covington Way. Look to the right and you will notice trailheads that lead to the lake. You can park anywhere on the street. Or, do as I do and continue driving straight. Turn right on N. La Patera. There aren't really any signs and the lake is completely hidden from the road. Finally, I decided to pull of the side of the road and begin here:
The trailhead of choice today
Walk along the paved road and lookout across the field
few quackers in the lake
Many bunnies on the trails off the paved road
This guy is not doing too well :(
Head back to the paved road, round the lake, then go down there
Walk across the marsh
The birds love it here
Once you round the entire lake, cross the road (this pic was taken off path)
There is a smaller, lower lake, hard to see but its there...
Day 202 Bonus:
A couple exits north on the 101 is Grish Park. These are soccer fields for Alyssa's tourney. The field is artificial, first time our girls played on that. In the first game, we tied a very good Sherman Oaks team 1-1. Kailey kicked the game tying goal in the final minute of play. In our second game, we beat a demoralized Saugus team 2-0. Today we head back out, cross our fingers that we do enough to make the playoffs.

Early Birthday Celebration for Alyssa. She turns 10 on Sunday, today, the day I am writing this now. The picture was taken after the 2-0 win against Saugus on Saturday.
