Day 558: Val Verde County Park - Parkour - Traffic on the 405 - Memorial Day Weekend

The Hills off Chiquito Canyon Road

Day #558 * Hike #640 * New Track #552
Saturday May 26, 2012
Val Verde County Park - Val Verde, CA
My Tripometer: 1 Hour * 1 Mile * +50 Feet

Parkour in Chatsworth

**We woke up early this Memorial Day weekend to take Ayden to a Parkour class in Chatsworth.  He has been in a Stunt program for many months now and we discovered this more advanced place which is about an hour from our home.  We found a YouTube video where kids are flipping off walls and what not and since Ayden can flip, lets try it.

Problem is, they placed him in a beginner class so the only actual activity he got was swinging on the monkey bars, stomach exercises and some jumping; NO FLIPS!  What a waste for us!  The lead instructor said that he would have to take the 8-week course and then pass the test, much like earning a belt in martial arts.  So, this was a big let down for us but Ayden is making huge progress in his Stunt class in Ventura - Home Sweet Home!

**After Parkour, we drove out to the Towsley Hike which I wrote about yesterday.  Check out the traffic jam we faced:

**After Hiking in Ed Davis Park, we continued up the 5 and then west on the 126 to head back home.  However, I decided to venture off the beaten path on Chiquito Canyon Road to check out the Green Spot on the GPS.  We Found:

The Small town of Val Verde, and...

 Val Verde County Park
(Hard to believe this is considered LA County!)

Ayden took the ripstick to the playground

Crazy hiking trail above the ball field - we said no thanks!

Bike Trail on the other side of the park

Turns into a dirt path and goes back there...

Switchbacks above the Park but we turned around

It was getting late and my sister was on her way to Ventura to hang out with us for the weekend.  We rushed back to the house and I began my fiesta by drinking 5 Bud Light Platinum's :).  The 6% alcoholic beverage was quite refreshing after the mediocrity of today.  -I prepared the BBQ but my sister called and was running later.  Jess, my wife, decided that now would be a good time to run 3 miles at Kimball Park:

Day #558 * Hike #641 * Duplicate Track
Saturday May 26, 2012
3 Mile Run at Kimball - Ventura, CA
My Tripometer: 30 minutes * 3.25 Miles * +75 Feet

With a stomach full of beer, we ran!  My first mile clocked in 9:30 and we finished the run in under 29 minutes.  Hardly a good time but with all things considering, not too shabby.

Finally, started the BBQ, my sister arrived with her boyfriend and the relaxing Memorial Day Celebration began.  Oh, but just wait to see what happens tomorrow.  Insanity Hike gone wrong, next post...
