Day 576: Glacier Point - Washburn Point - Half Dome - Yosemite Falls

Half Dome and Yosemite Falls from Washburn Point

Day #576 * Hike #661 * New Track #564
Wednesday June 13, 2012
Glacier Point - Yosemite National Park
Washburn Point - Yosemite Falls - Half Dome
My Tripometer: 1.25 hours * 1.25 Miles * +50 Feet

Directions:
Follow Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park to the very end.  Washburn Point is located on the right.  Unlike Taft Point, there is no hiking here.  Simply exit the vehicle and awe.

Beyond Washburn Point, follow the narrow road down the hill to Glacier Point.  There are many hiking trails from this spot.  Some head over to Sentinel Dome and Taft Point or you could try your luck on the Four Mile Trail which leads you over 3000 feet below to Curry Village.  No thanks, think I'll drive.

We spent over an hour back here.  We generated at least a mile of hiking, enjoyed the views and then stopped into the gift shop for a .51 cent penny and a hot dog.  In my opinion, Glacier Point offers better views than Taft Point.  That being said, I enjoyed my hike to Taft Point more because I did it first, I had to work for it, I was at a higher elevation and it was just awesome!  Everything is awesome; it's Yosemite!

  1. I worked in Yellowstone for three summers back in the day, which led to a love of National Parks. What a great blog you've come up with! I've only been to Yosemite once and this takes me right back.

I found your blog via LinkedIn and have added it to my RSS Reader.
