Follow the directions from DAY 9. Essentially, exit the 101 Freeway at Moorpark and head away from the shopping. At the end of Moorpark, turn right on Greenmeadow and follow it to the very end. You will pass the Day 9 Trailhead. Since I dont have a picture, check out the view from otter space: Greenmeadow Google Map
Without a camera, I wanted to find a boring place. Nothing better than running along a cement trail. Actually, with the golf course on one side and a mix of trees and grass on the other, it was a pretty nice scenic run. I ran it back and forth a total of three times. I'll estimate that I jogged a total distance of 2.25 miles with a 50 foot total elevation gain.
Camera Challenge!
I've posted a thread on an MTV suggestion box. I am not happy with the results so i am not going to include the link. However, if you are interested I did attach the link to my Facebook page a while back. Anyhow, I've been given a lot of crap for hiking everyday. I am sharing with the world my experience and instead of receiving a pat on the back, I am being ridiculed. Look, I don't need a hug but to be criticized is just horrible. Although i get it. I suppose I am being selfish by doing this but at least it's something.
Anyhow, the challenge is this. I am going to buy a new camera at Target and i will return it within 30 days to receive my money back. I know, it's not ethical to do this, but some guy did it with a camcorder a few years ago and made a movie about it. I forget the title, but his challenge was to meet Drew Berrymore within 30 days before he had to return the camera to Circuit City. Well, I'm doing it with a camera and as long as I don't ruin it, I should be able to return it. Truth is, i cannot justify buying a new camera right now but I must have one if I'm going to continue. It is official, my camera is broken. It will turn on, but it makes a horrible sound. In addition, the water got inside and ruined the picture. I don't think it can be fixed.
The challenge is this, if I don't receive a sponsor or someone to donate me a camera within 30 days, I'll give up hiking. I posted that on the MTV board last night and before I could post the challenge to my blog, SkyHiker already offered me a camera! Albeit, it's not the best camera, but it would get the job done.
Before i say yes to his old camera, I am asking anyone else out there to donate a brand new camera. I don't mean to be picky, but I love the Cannon that I had and I am partial to the brand. I created a link the other day where you can order one and mail it to me: New Camera.
I have some nerve to ask for this, but I am :). I really want a sponsor to help support and promote this journey. I'm only asking for the equipment needed to wander and hopefully with the right sponsor, I can hike for a cause. I'm not picky. I'll hike for Breast Cancer or ***how about for the Harbor Seals in Carpenteria! The sanctuary should be protected 12 months out of the year, not just 5 months! From Day 84: Harbor Seals.
Anyhow, if you are out there, I will begin my countdown for a new camera and hopefully something real good will become of all of this. Until the big corporate backing, the little guy like SkyHiker is who I am dependent on to complete my camera mission. Before I sign off for the Day, I want you to go to SkyHiker's sight and pay him a visit. He is listed on the Blogs that I follow (My own 100 Hikes) and his most recent post is: Free National Parks Days in 2011
This is good information. His blog is always done very well:
April 16-24 (National Park Week)
June 21 (first day of summer)
September 24 (Public Lands Day)
November 11-13 (Veteran's Day weekend)

Thanks again Sky Hiker and if you anyone else is out there, HELP! :)
I messed up the dates on National Park Week. It should be April 16-24. Sorry about that.
