DAY 107: PUBLIC RECREATION TRAIL (LINDERO CANYON ROAD)

DAY 107: PUBLIC RECREATION TRAIL (LINDERO CANYON ROAD)
DateTuesday March 1, 2011
Miles: 3.5
Elevation Gain725 Feet
Time: 1.25 Hours
Difficulty: The final hill is short but steep
Reward: Ducks, Geese, Turtles & Fish!!!
Description: Found a random trail and it led me to a paradise.  Other than one somewhat steep hill, the trail is very easy and well maintained.  Bring your kids but maybe you should leave your dogs at home.
Where: Oak Park, CA
Directions:From the 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks, exit on Lindero Canyon and head north.  After you pass Kanan pass a couple of streets and look to the right.  You will see the trailhead.  Drive up a few hundred feet and turn right on Kilburn Ct. and park.  You cannot park on Lindero Canyon.

...if the trail wasn't completely random and pretty enough, I found a Lake!

Quack, but what is that; a duck?

 Real Turtles!

 Big Fish!

The way back, up and to the left...

The lake is on the corner of Kanan and Holly Tree Drive.  If you are bringing your little ones, there is no strenuous hiking involved to reach the lake.  Bring plenty of bread because the ducks were expecting me to feed them, but I had none.  They were very friendly and eager to play.  That said, I did not see one other person on the entire hiking trail or the lake.  Really??  You build a man made lake in a rich neighborhood and no one is here to visit!  Wow, and it was a gorgeous day.  We've had cold temps and rain, snow in some areas but today sunshine and mid 60's...  Anyhow, enjoy this place.  I was really happy to have found it!  Moreover, there is another trail heading out the other direction.  I'll bring my kids back and check it out.  In fact, I noticed so much open space from the top of the hill that I am going to have to map it out.  There are some maps available to the public nearby here, but nothing specific for this open space...
