The New Mighty Vipers, without Alyssa

Saturday morning we strolled down to Kimball Park to watch the first half of the Ventura Mighty Vipers season opener.  Last year, Alyssa lead the team to the State Championship Game!  She broke her arm but the team rallied to win it all!  If you haven't seen her soccer videos, please click on the video tab at the top of the page for details.

The new Viper team is still coached by Matt and many of the same girls still play for him.  Their colors are new but their drive is to "Believe!"  The Vipers have graduated to Club soccer and play in the Bronze division.  Alyssa earned a scholarship to play for the Eagles in the Gold division.  The team she is on is nationally ranked and bound to become Platinum by next year.

The Vipers continued their winning ways, even without Alyssa.  They scored a 4-0 victory over their opponent.  Alyssa misses playing for coach Matt and she especially misses playing against the easier competition.  Later this day, her Eagles fought hard to win their game 2-1.

Yes, there is a hike today.  After watching the Vipers, we drove Ayden out to Simi Valley where he began his club diving training.  He recently won the gold medal at the Olympic Plaza in Belmont.  In search for a new hike, this is what I discovered...

Hmm, a duck pond beyond the fence of the aquatic center!

 Ayden jumping from the 3-meter

 Temptation - I split a Reese's with Alyssa

 Finally - Trailhead!!!

Directions
From the 118 Freeway in Simi Valley, exit on Erringer and drive south for a couple of miles.  The park will be on the right at the corner of Royal.

After allowing the kids to play at the park, we approached the pond

An Interesting Bird - Skyhiker, what is this?

Many ducks in the pond, they were behind me, really...

This is in the aqueduct behind the park

It appears that this goes a long way; I'm sure I will return to explore

 Water falls filling the pond

 the water source

This was truly a neat area.  Completely unexpected.  I thought it was cool how the water was piped from the ground to create this river system.  The kids had a great time at the park and the presence of water helped chilled the 100 degree heat to a more comfortable illusion.  Ayden will be coming out here every Saturday and Sunday, well, we'll try to make it every week.  It's a good 45 minute drive from my house and it may overlap with Alyssa's soccer but we'll figure it out...

Sub Zero

After practice we scoped out the competition.  We are opening up a Frozen Yogurt Shop so we have been sampling all the ice cream type shops around.  The effect of the nitro here is way cool.  Liquid becomes ice cream, neat.  However, the taste was not all that.  For me, this was a one time gimmick.  I will not return...
